On January 22, 2015 members of the lobster industry along with Provincial and Federal Government representatives met via webinar to discuss new labelling requirements for companies selling to the European Union. New rules came into effect on December 13, 2014 and other rules regarding packaging such are providing nutritional information will be phased in over the next two years. Presenters included Yannick Dheilly, Trade Commissioner – Agriculture and Processed Food Products, based in Paris and Julie Ferguson-Ceniti, Trade Commissioner – Fish and Seafood EU based in Brussels. Ben Gailor, Trade Commissioner and Global Practice Lead – Aquaculture was instrumental in pulling the event together which saw 17 Canadian companies who sell lobster products to the European Union participate.
